The most frightening sight for a seaman in the early 1700’s was the flag identifying a ship belonging to the cruel pirate Ned Low. That is exactly what Philip Ashton, a sailor from Massachusetts, saw while fishing near Nova Scotia. Follow this brave hostage across the Atlantic and back to the uninhabited islandof Roatan, where Ashton escaped and spent16 months surviving as best he could. This is his account.
